With the repair season upon us HighCraft Home Services would like to remind consumers to be careful of home repair scams and solicitations. Complaints against home improvement/home repair contractors are among the most common consumer complaints received by the Better Business Bureau. The typical scammer will solicit door-to-door and will ask for full payment up-front or pressure the homeowners to make an immediate decision. To avoid risk here are a few questions to ask:
- Are they licensed and bonded and insured?
- Are they listed on the Better Business Bureau website with a good rating?
- Can they provide three references from customers in the past 12 months?
- Can they provide a banking and/or financial reference?
- What professional/trade organizations or affiliations do they belong to?
- How long have they have been in business?
- Do they have a “before and after” picture portfolio?
- Are they familiar with local permits that may be required?
- Do they have an office or are they working from a vehicle?
