Here is a interesting story that we thought we would share. It goes to show that it definitely pays to do some research before hiring a handyman.
Recently, a potential client contacted HighCraft Home Services about having some repairs completed on a home that she was interested in purchasing. Through the inspection process, she learned that the gutters needed to be replaced prior to the purchase of the new home. We met the homeowner at the property to discuss the repairs, and then began putting an estimate together. The next day when we called to present our estimate, the client informed us that she had already hired someone else to do the work. We thanked her for the opportunity to bid the work, and let her know to feel free to call us if she ever needed our services in the future. That Saturday morning, we received a frantic phone call from her explaining that the guys she had hired were from Craigslist, and they were mangling her roof and gutters and screwing big straps into the her roof. She also told us that the Craigslist handymen had not only asked her to meet them at Home Depot to pay for the materials herself, they had also charged her $1000 in advance for the disastrous job that they were now in the middle of doing. When she asked how much our estimate would have been, she was shocked. Our estimate was much lower, and included seamless gutters and proper brackets. Had she hired HighCraft Home Services, the work would have been done by recognized, insured professionals. Needless to say a lesson was learned and that very same client recently called us to estimate another project at her home.
